Parent and Carer Support

Support for you

  • Are you exhausted and feel like you don’t matter anymore to your child?

  • Do you feel like you’re losing presence in your child’s life?

  • Is your child refusing your attempts to keep them safe or guide them?

  • Is your child refusing to go to school?

  • Does your child seem to be controlling the house?

  • Do you feel like other people have greater influence over your child than you?

  • Are you losing connection with you child?

If any of this feels familiar, you are not alone. We support parents and carers facing all of these challenges and more, without judgement and with deep understanding of just how exhausting and isolating this can feel.

Our work is about helping you regain presence in your child's life: rebuilding connection, restoring confidence, and finding a way forward together.

Therapeutic Parenting

When children are experiencing significant emotional and behavioural complexity, traditional models of parenting often just don't seem to work in the same way. This is not because parents lack good-enough parenting skills, it's more likely to be because children who have experienced significant disruption and trauma need a different kind of parenting: a reparative one.

These children may need re-parenting that helps them learn, gradually and gently, to trust in adults' intentions and become open to their care and influence. Bulby Psychology offers therapeutic parenting support and consultation in individual, couple and group contexts, walking alongside parents and carers throughout their reparative parenting journey.

Therapeutic Parenting Groups

We also offer creative, connection-focused group experiences, including:

  • Understanding Our Children: making sense of the feelings and needs beneath behaviour

  • Creative Connections, including Connecting through Therapeutic Stories

  • Rhythm and Regulation: playful, practical ways to build co-regulation and connection

Our groups offer tailored therapeutic approaches and a warm space to workshop creative ideas together with others who truly understand.

Therapy for Parents and Carers

Caring for a child affected by trauma can take a real toll on you, too. Many of the parents and carers we meet are carrying exhaustion, grief, guilt, anxiety or a quiet loss of confidence in themselves and some are also holding their own painful experiences, past or present, including difficult birth and early parenting experiences.

That's why we offer psychological therapy for parents and carers in their own right. This is a space that belongs to you, not to talk about strategies for your child but to be supported, make sense of your own feelings and experiences, and recover your own sense of steadiness and self-worth.

We believe that looking after the parent is never separate from looking after the child. When you feel more grounded, connected and cared for, your child feels it too. You don't need to justify this support as being "for" your child - you matter, full stop.
